Nanjing , the ancient capital of 10 differnt dynasties, has many customs and festivals formed in history.  They are characterized by combinating the style of north and south. Every year, there are many varied activities held to celebrate festivals by which people can trace the Nanjing's glorious past.

Jinling Lantern Show

The Jinling Lantern Show came into being in Six Dynasties Period(265-585 ) and prevailed in Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) and Qing dynasty(1644-1911). It is said that the  show was sponsored by Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emporer of Ming Dynasty, to celebrate the peaceful society.Now the lantern show held in the district of  Confucius Temple, lasts one month from the Spring Festival every year.

Yuhua Stone Art Festival

As an important festive activity lasting from the end of September to the beginning of October every year in Nanjing, it is chiefly marked by excellent “Exhibition of Exquisite Yuhua Stone”. Pebbles exhibited generally fall into five major categories numbered over several hundred, i.e. human figures, animals, scenery, flowers and unique shapes. As for “On-the Spot Naming after Yuhua stone”， tourists are encouraged to name pebbles provided by the sponsor of the activity, by borrowing names of poems, idioms, flowers, animals and plants. In addition, there are  excellent songs, dances and acrobatics performed by professional and none-professional art troupes

Jiangxingzhou Islet Grape Festival

Visitors can enjoy the view of Yangtze River and the natural oxygen bar, experience the rustic charm of picking grapes on the islet. It is a summer resort and a grand recreational occasion, also a new agricultural tour spot of the city.

Plum Blossom Festival

There is a long history of cultivating and enjoying plum blossom in Nanjing, particularly on Meihua Hill, one of the four national plum blossom scenic spots, which is located in Zhongshan Hill Scenic Area. Now, we also can enjoy the scene at Fujiabian, Pearl Spring, and Gulin Park. It starts from late February to middle March annually, and holds various serial activities and economic and trade exchanges. It is also listed as one of the annual serial tour festivals by National Tour Bureau.
