Taking the advantage of unparalleled holding of documents of the Republic of China, NL kicked off this pictorial database project in 2004. So far more than 40,000 rarely seen pictures of modern China have been indexed and added into the database, which contains 15 categories of material, such as politics, economy, military, culture, science and technology, education, physical education, religion, law, personage, architecture, custom, advertisement, pharmacy and public health, history and geography, etc.
Images of Modern China as a whole gives a vivid display of modern China in an all-round and detailed way. It has received applause from fellow libraries for its high appreciation and history value ever since its first trial on the Fifth Conference of Chinese Resources Cooperation and Development in 2005. Nevertheless in coming 2 to 3 years, NL will not cease improving and perfecting this database, aiming at building it into a unique pictorial database on a large scale and of great influence.
